Languages
English language and other languages
The language of Chartwell International School is English. Chartwell provides a fully English language-based environment, and both staff and students are expected to speak only English on campus.
For students who do not have an adequate command of English, extra help is given and supplementary English classes offered. Special efforts are made to ensure that no child feels isolated or uncomfortable because of language deficiency. Chartwell teachers are experienced in dealing with children who speak no English at all on enrolment. Experience shows that in most cases one term of special support can ensure that the child’s English is sufficiently developed to participate fully in all teaching and school activities. Special attention will however continue for as long as it is needed.
French is currently offered as an additional second language, from Year 3 upwards.
Serbian language and culture
For all children, Serbian as a second language is offered as a club.
For Serbian children, advanced Serbian classes are held. The curriculum allows for the school to adapt the to its region. Chartwell students thus have the opportunity to learn about events in the Serbian calendar, and if they so wish can study Serbian culture in many ways through their project work. This allows Serbian children to benefit from a truly international education while avoiding too great a distance from knowledge that would be attained in an official Serbian school.
