Other programme items
ICT
The school has a network of computers that provide the students with controlled access to the internet. In today’s technological society, computer literacy forms an important part of a student’s education and computer use is encouraged in all subjects both during and after school.
Library
The school library is an important part of the school and provides a wide range of resources and information that satisfies the needs and interests of pupils. The collection consists mostly of books, but it also includes CD’s, videos and cassettes. The pupils can borrow material at any time and do so by “signing out” the relevant item
Community engagement
Chartwell emphasises community awareness. Chartwell students explore the society in which they live, its history and working reality.
Excursions are frequent. For example, in the school year 2007/08 visits have been made to the Nature museum where we saw many skeletons of different animals, to the Hippodromme, water and sewage factory, Volic salas, the, Royal Palace “Beli Dvor”, museum Nikola Tesla, to the theatre, mountain Rudnik.
Chartwell also maintains cooperation with Anton Skala, a school for children with special needs, and common sports and other activities are often arranged.
Extra-curricular Activities
Chartwell organizes a range of extra-curricular activities. Instrumental teaching (individual music lessons/music club), cooking club, art club, sports club, computer club, additional language tuition and presentation skills are offered among others. We are constantly looking at the children’s needs, and exploring new opportunities.
For the year 2008-2009 many interesting and exciting expeditions are planned for the students to experience the challenges and rewards of Serbia’s wonderful regions where children can learn about their natural environment, learn to cooperate in outdoor activities and thoroughly enjoy themselves.
Special needs
Chartwell has staff trained in programmes for children with special needs. A child facing for example, challenges in their learning, can expect individual assistance to manage these. A child with a special gift has special teaching needs too, and the school supports any such case with the appropriate individual attention.
“Friends of Chartwell”
“Friends of Chartwell is an informal group of parents(and friends) who meet on a voluntary basis. Their aim is to support the school in practical ways such as organising open days, summer fairs and raising finances for small projects within the school.
